Visited John Finlay Motors in Christchurch to drop off the fishing mobile after the last trip.  A very delectable DAIMLER DART was in being serviced.

Ross's Rough Flies - The Kakahi Queen

When preparing for the annual trout fishing sojourn it is necessary to tie some of the favourite flies.  They seem to disappear with fish or into willows, briar rose, matagouri or lupins.  

The first item to go on the desk is a generous nip of single malt whisky - HELLYERS ROAD DISTILLERY TASMANIA  seem to sooth my feeble efforts at producing a suitable product.

Fishing one of my favourite streams requires a generous number of mayfly imitations - the KAKAHI QUEEN  as they seem to be continually ending in the streamed vegetation.

Following is the rough guide to to some very rough flies.

Size 12 Tiemco Hook - remove barb

Tie in 6/0 thread to bend

Add furnace hackle for tail

Tie in black hackle for wings

Use thread to stand hackle upright

Tie in Yellow Mallard 

Take tread to hook bend 

Tie in stripped peacock herl

Tie in hackle in from of wings.

Wind hackle to back and front of wings. Whip finish and add head cement
