As a refresher the following photos are from a year ago just after MGA Dan had acquired the barn find.

MGA Barn Find - Update 11.2.13

The Barn Find MGA 1600 shown on 6th January has now found a new home.  The new owner has done a rough assembly of the car with the body panels that were stacked with the car.

 When out for a drive in Twin Cam YD2 1679 another of Dan superb restorations we called into see how the MGA barn find was going.  

  Dan is now well underway with the full restoration of the car and photos following illustrate the extent Dan goes to to ensure a great result.

Garage Visit - to MGA Guru Dan C

Went to have a few loose ends tidied with the twin cam (YD2 1679) this morning.  Dan can't help himself the "Barn Find" MGA 1600 looks like being saved and turned into another fine restoration.  Dan even mentioned the colour today - Monza Red.  If you want the best in MGAs you will need to get in early so could have a "little" influence on the finished car as long as it is red.

Car was an MGA 1500 rescued from a garage in Maitland in 2009. The A had been off the road since 1972, and the body was in two halves, and with the usual bad rust areas. Remarkably, the chassis was in excellent condition, and ideal for the minor chassis alterations to take the Honda S2000 engine and gearbox.

Engine:

The Honda S2000 motor and gearbox was purchased in New Zealand. This engine swap had been performed three times in the UK, so we knew it would fit. 

Chassis:

Modifications were limited to the changing of the engine mount positions (using Land Rover mounts), removing a small part of the front cross member to clear the front pulley, and altering the middle chassis cross member to take the Honda 6 speed gearbox.  

Fuel Tank:

The fuel tank was moved to the left to accommodate the Honda exhaust system, which exits on the opposite side to the standard MGA. The fuel tank was also modified to take a swirl pot for the fuel injection system.

Electrical:

The electrical system is a combination of old Lucas system for functions, other than the engine...here the original Honda ECU was “altered” to eliminate over 100 sensors that the Honda S2000 road car has.

Modifications: To the car are front and rear Hoyle Engineering suspension. The front is coil over shock, with Sierra Cosworth vented disc brakes. The rear suspension is independent, with Ford Granada drive train complete with Quaife LSD. Rear brakes are disc units from the Granada.
